It's as good as it gets for me, I have been to Pita Cafe at least 9 times...and I always end up smelling like I bathed in garlic and in full satisfaction mode for days on end. Pure heaven!! I love their chicken shawarma sandwich...at $3.99 it's a steal...yesterday I had the Greek Fattoush with chicken shawarma....and I have finally proclaimed that this is my favorite salad....of all time...the seasonings are so good, that even though the dressing is amazing, it really doesn't need it because the salad alone is SO GOOD!!! It's SO GOOD!!! I'm getting another on Monday...because it's SO GOOD!!!!! haha...I also got some hummous and garlic spread with half a dozen fresh bread for later in the evening...so good...so SO GOOD!! I was introduced to Pita Cafe when I started working in Southfield nearly 2 years ago, and it really has been some of the BEST Middle Eastern cuisine I have had... A Lebanese gent I dated for a spell agreed with me too...he thought the food was very good... It's seriously my favorite... The staff is super amazing...I've eaten in, and done carry out, and all the time it's wonderful! I have had the kibbe, falaffel, lentl soup...and much more...I could eat here daily....in fact, I may ask to have a part time job here very soon...as I have just this minute decided I must eat Meditteranean every day....yes...every day now...I shall eat something from here :-) hehehe

The falafel is really cheap and delicious, the veggie platter was good too. the waiters are not overly chatty or too friendly but SO prompt. it was fantastic!

The Food is great. but they have shady people working there, i was out of town for 45 days never using my discover credit card. first and only transaction home was pita cafe in southfield, next morning i have 3 fraudulent transactions on my card. Ufties

The best from fresh pita bread that comes out the oven upon meals to the service. I always order the half order of deboned chicken meal and it's plenty for me and another person to share and still have left overs . Price is nothing that will break your account and you'll leave full and refreshed .

I am obsessed with Middle Eastern Food. Every time I am in Detroit for the holidays, Middle Eastern is one of the first places that I go too. This was my first time to the Pita Cafe. The food was good, but not the best I have ever had. If you are in the area and you are in the mood for Middle Eastern food, I would go check it out...I just would not go out of my way to go there.

Live in chicago now but always make it a point to stop in when I am in the area. I have been ordering the sharma sandwiches for the last 18 years. Warm bread at the table is the best too.

*** Hmm, my fave authentic Mediterranean spot in Detroit. *** Again, Greektown has some spots but Pita Cafe is the bomb. The best way to describe their eats here is tasty, tasty, tasty! ;p My fave dish is the chicken schwarma plate ... omg yummy stuff. My fave soup is the chicken/rice/veggie. It's crack-a-lack'n good. And the best part about it all is that my brother turned me on to it. Why? My brother teased me relentlessly when i bought falalels. My brother came to visit me in LA about 8yrs ago, and was hungry. So i took him to a joint in the valley to eat, and ordered two falalels. He said "what kinda brotha have you become ... you ain't become one of those tofu-eat'n sheeh-sheeh mo'fo's, have you"? Stupid. So now I ask him tonite for dinner, he drives straight to Pita Cafe. Oh, how I laughed my ass off. He said "now do not tell the fellas I've been eating here, but my wife loves this place, and I do too"! "My, my..." I said, "you lil tofu-eat'n sheeh-sheeh mo'fo, uh"? (lol) *** If you love Mediterranean food, you will surely dig this place. ***

Great food. Only complaint is that most Middle Eastern restaurants I've been to give you a few pickles with your meal and they don't here. You have to pay $2 for a side of pickles and you probably won't eat them all. As far as service, I don't know whats been happening lately but the past few times I've been here they have messed up my order. Today I called an order in, (2 Chicken Sharwarma Plates) took me about 15-20 mins to get there and it wasn't ready. They mixed up the order. Then when we got the food there was one salad and one soup with the meals when I wanted them both with salads. They took the soup back and gave me my salad. Bad customer service there. I don't think you should ever take something back from a customer esp if you mixed it up. And for the inconvenience we should've been given something free, but we were offered nothing. I ended up spending about 15 mins there which abused the point of calling it in.

Me and the hubs went for lunch one Sunday afternoon. Their falafels are really good and not dry like some places can be. Plus I love the bread and the pickles! Service was meh (they weren't mean, but not too friendly either) and the veggie juice options were just ok. That's what kept it me from giving it 4 stars.

i have avoided this place because of the name for ages. i thought that it couldn't possibly be good with a dorky name like pita cafe. i was wrong. we had dinner there tonight because our usual place "falaffel king" is closed on sundays and i hate trying to park at anita's. what a great little find. the shwarma was moist and tasty. the sauce extra garlicky. the hummus was smooth as a baby's behind and perfectly flavored and the tabouli fresh and juicy. looks like we might have a new place. love, juston

This place does not disappoint!! Shawarma and gallahba are awesome. Really like their fresh pita and lentil soup!!!

  • Julie T.

I've been coming here since I was a kid and have never had better Lebanese food. The crushed lentil soup is unreal and the garlic sauce legitimately addictive. Everything I've tried here is delicious and that is not an exaggeration. Always very friendly waitstaff as well.

  • Melissa P.

Oh, Pita Cafe. If it were nutritionally sound to live solely off your fresh baked pita and your amazing garlic spread you can bet that this girl would.

  • Amanda B.

I've lived a mile away from this place for 3 years and just recently tried it. I'm so mad at myself bc I could've been eating their amazing food all the time! I get the Shish Tawook and it's the best I've had. The seasoning they use smells so good and tastes even better. Their garlic is perfect and the bread you get when you dine in is great too. So is the rice and salad dressing. It's just awesome. Also, the inside is very nice & clean and the staff has always be awesome. Love this place!

  • Nada R.

This place has incredibly high quality food for very reasonable prices. The tabouli, the fresh juices, the FRESH PITAS!!, the falafel, and other salads are all among the best I've ever eaten anywhere. I'm always in a group when I go, and the servers are unbelievably friendly and accommodating. Let them know ahead of time and they can split checks without batting an eye, and run credit cards for even tiny sums with no problem. If you're in the area, definitely go-- even if it's just for a sandwich and a glass of fresh vegetable juice!

  • Erin L.

The cesar salad is wonderful, just ask them to go light on the dressing, with chicken is great. THE BEST thing on the menu that people go CRAZY for is the fried cauliflower, which you would never guess, but it is AMAZING. The eggplan app is great and their falafel is ok, but not the best thing on the menu. They do great apps and salads.

    (5)
  • Judie B.

Horrible food and service. Drinks didnt come til we were almost done eating and only after we reminded our server that we hadn't gotten them yet. Took forever to get the bill. Food was dry and tasteless. Not sure where the 4-5 star ratings comes from but it's not this place. I don't even think this place deserves 1 star but it wouldn't let me put 0. If you've ever had really good middle eastern food before you would know this place is just not good!

  • Becca L.

This place was amazing for the price. I loved the service, the food, and the atmosphere. Keep up the good work Pita Cafe.

  • Megan F.

As the other reviews suggest, this is delicious, healthy and authentic Middle Eastern cuisine at an affordable price. Definitely one of the best in the Detroit area.

    (5)
  • Christopher G.

The best in the area, always fresh and delicious, fast and friendly service. Crushed lentil soup, shawarma, falafel, baba ganouj, and the garlic spread never fail to disappoint!

  • Jenni H.

Delicious Mediterranean food, lots of vegetarian options, and relatively quick service even when they're busy with a lunch rush? How can you argue with that? My favorite is the falafel sandwich and their pita with hummus and garlic sauce is delicious. Is it the fanciest place around? Of course not, but when it's two blocks from work, that doesn't particularly matter. Although your pores will be oozing garlic for the rest of the afternoon, so your co-workers probably won't want to get too close, which may or may not be a good thing :-)

  • Pete D.

I really like this place!! Boy you can't beat this place for the bread. There is nothing like it. You can smell the bread from your table and you can't wait until they bring a basket over to you. I take the bread and tear open one side and put their great salad inside of the bread, that's a meal. But you got to get the chicken too.OMG The place is not much to look at but when you get inside, Surprise you have been transported to the middle east on a magic carpet. Get there before 12 if you want to park any were near the place.

At one time I would have given this a 5 star rating. I used to love the food here. Then on one visit, we all found pieces of chicken in the vegetarian soup we had requested. This was years ago, and ok none of us (friends or family) are snobs about food, so there's nothing wrong with a mistake and it happens. However that day there was just a lot of attitude from the server which shocked me because this place used to have the friendliest servers. About a year later, I returned at the insistence of a friend and there was no other issue. I've been back two or three time since but I just feel like the service when it's busy is not like it used to be. I also don't think that for the amount we pay here that it's that much better than other places. The food is fairly well seasoned but it's always so busy that it feels like we are an afterthought with long waits being customary. With carryout orders at dinner, I've often received much larger portions at other restaurants. I'll go back because I love the warm bread and it's a decent place for lunch. I know it's hard to be critical of a place that everyone else seems to love but having been here about 15 times it just seems to seem less impressive than it once did.

I love Pita Cafe. This is our default family dinner place when our kids are all in town. They have the ability to seat large parties quite quickly without notice, and the food is always served to perfection. Two of my kids are vegetarians, and always find eating at Pita Cafe simple. My husband, who does not like Middle Eastern food, can also always find something to eat on Pita Cafe's menu. Very affordable, friendly service, and nothing but fresh food. If you don't get to taste their fresh pita bread, you're missing out.

I've been back here quite a few times... and even though I am no vegetarian (proud omnivore) their vegetarian menu is one of the best in all of metro Detroit. There are SO many options -- some of which I am actually too scared to try. I had a nibble of their cauliflower dish (which was nutty, delicious, and positively addicting) and their cracked bulgar/wheat dish (wow, that was soooo good). The one thing I wish they would do is, some sort of combo plate with these kinds of UNIQUE vegetarian dishes to Pita Cafe. I hate stuffed grape leaves and the other bland ubiquitous vegetarian food found in the standard Middle Eastern restaurants. I also, personally, can't eat a huge dish of just lentils or cracked wheat -- I get bored. I need some variety. A little this, a little that, yah know? Yes, I have ADHD even when it comes to eating. I'll stop eating it because I am bored of it. But what truly surprised me was when a 22+ party arrived apparently unannounced (communication error somewhere, not sure where). They were able to quickly put tables together. Get hummus appetizers on the table, water, drinks, pitas all rather efficiently. Our waitress was amazing and even the owner/manager was helping out. They did a phenomenal job for having TWO +10 top tables. Sorry, I don't miss the terrorist funding La Shish once I found the joys of Pita Cafe.

Chicken Shawarma, rice, salad, garlic sauce...what else can I say?! There was a party and only my taste buds were invited. Delicious and I had enough food for two more meals. We will be back!

Ever since La Shish got busted up by Homeland Security, I've pined for some good ole home-town Middle Eastern food, and this is IT! Super yummy Hummus, and the Shwarma is awesome as well. Real falafels too! I've only found one place in California that even comes close to this, and they don't bake their own bread! The thing I hate most about this place is 1) there's always more good stuff on the menu than I've budgeted for, 2) oh, *I* ordered all that? - I guess I'll have to try to eat it all then... nomnomnom...

  • Bill B.

Pita Cafe is my favorite Lebanese restaurant in the area (though it just nips Cedar Garden in St. Clair Shores at the finish line). The garlic sauce and pita is garlic heaven. Salads are big and fresh. Main dishes, such as the vegetarian stuffed cabbage leaves, are well finished and savory. The room, too, is comfortable and amenable to convivial times. If you love Lebanese cuisine and are near this area, you must go here.

  • Michael E.

The hands down BEST Mideastern food in the area. Wonderful fresh baked pita, and friendly service. Hint: Do not miss the baked cauliflower with tahini or the potato kibbee- two of the best vegetarian dishes you'll ever taste. (And the tomato kibbee is pretty outstanding, too.)

Oh yum! Where have you been my whole life, Pita Cafe? After our recent trip to Beirut Palace (gag, gag, gag!) we were hurting for some good Middle Eastern. And my Yelp app did right by me with Pita Cafe! First and foremost, we had one of the friendliest, most efficient servers ever. He was very cordial, and we never needed to ASK for anything... drink refills while glass was 1/3 full, extra napkins when our meals came, dirty dishes never sat for more than a min or two, etc. He was awesome! The menu is very reminiscent of La Shish. Hmmm. Lots of options, all pretty standard, all reasonably priced. The decor is pretty typical too, and the place was CLEAN. Started with a mango smoothie (around 4 bucks). Yum. Then greek salad and chicken veggie soup (came w/ meals, $1.50 up-charge for the greek). Yum. Fresh, hot, pillowy pitas that tasted like honey. Yum. Some type of lamb combo with kafta, buttery rice, meat pie, etc (around 12 bucks). Yum. But the shining freaking star of the whole meal was the chicken schwarma w/ hummous (around 12 bucks). OH MY GOODNESS! The hummous was spot on.. creamy, not too bland or too garlicky. And the chicken was moist, well seasoned and delicious. I couldn't stop stealing bites of my boyfriend's chicken!! And of course we had enough food to bring home 2 take-out containers. Good baklava too, yet it's the little rolled up kind, and it left me wanting more. Like, the whole pan or something. If the service is this great, and the food is this delicious, EVERY time, I will become addicted.

The Pita Cafe has that lovely fluffy hot pita... so much like the bread I miss from the former La Shish. So, make sure you order a side of hummous or tabouli for dipping. You could probably make a meal out of simply that and some lentil soup, but hey... I'm a hungry gal, and I'm not about to stop there. Falafel is good, but I prefer the chicken shawarma. The chicken is a tad bit drier than I usually like, but honestly, the garlic spread makes up for it. Service is friendly and quick, even during the lunch rush, when the place seems positively packed! It's in a bit of an odd location, but since it's right off 696, it's also pretty convenient if you need a quick lunch stop while you're drivin' along that corridor.

I have been to this place maybe 4 or 5 times. I have yet to be disappointed. Wait times are low, staff is very attentive, food is excellent. I think my wife said it best, when she said that the salad she was eating seemed to fresh...as if they had their own garden in the back. To quote my wife again, who introduced me to this restaurant. "This place is definitely everything a restaurant should be." They make their own lemonade fresh, make smoothies with fresh fruit, and I haven't tasted anything that I haven't liked. Great ambiance. My dishes have always come out, hot, everything taste fresh, and full of flavor. I will be back for more.

Went here for a quick lunch today and I was satisfied. Not impressed, just satisfied. The pita had a sweet flavor. I do like the "fluffy" variety sometimes and that they put sesames on their pitas, but why is it sweet flavored? That threw me off. It wasn't disgusting or anything. Just a strange combo with the garlic of the hummus. The hummus was just ok too. It was a nice light consistency but was lacking a bit of garlic kick. For my main act I had the Shish Kafta. The lamb was dry and the sandwich was packed with so many tomatoes I couldnt' taste the garlic sauce and the pita was mushy near the end. I added some pickles and hummus and that helped. But with a well put together Kafta, this never would have been necessary. The atmosphere is nice and inviting and the service was speedy and kind. But I don't think I will be paying them another visit. There's just too many other places in the area (like Hamido! yelp.com/biz/hamido-dear… ) that far outshine Pita Cafe to keep my business.

This place has a lot of vegetarian options and really good crushed lentil soup. The bread that they server when you dine in is good also. They also have a really good juice bar and the staff is very friendly!

  • Hooper M.

The food is delicious and the service is excellent. They call me by name, like I'm Norm from "Cheers." The de-boned chicken is my personal favorite, but the thing that puts pita cafe over the top is the toum (garlic spread.) It is, quite simply, to die for. Their new "hot rolls" which are some sort of unleavened pocket bread cooked onsite in what appears to be a stone oven are addictive... especially when slathered with toum. The also have a raw juice bar, if you're into that sort of thing.

Quickie review. We get food from here for lunch sometimes. My lamb shawarma was fine with regards to taste, but the meat was a bit dry. Lamb chops were quite tasty, and didn't suffer as much with overcooking/dryness. It's a huge portion, but I ate pretty much the whole thing. Enjoyed the rice. The baba ghanoush that came with it was okay. A bit too much acidity for me, but still, it was fine.

  • Matt L.

"You look like engineers." I've never had a greeting quite like this at a restaurant. And while I am, in fact, an engineer by education, I like to think I hardly look the part. That aside, I enjoyed friendly, yet harried, service (although I wish they expedited a little more effectively -- we were really only starting our salads / soups when our entrees showed up). For apps, the hummus and baba were solid, although neither memorable. My chicken shawarma main was very tasty, and I enjoyed the charbroiled veggies immensely. Bread was every bit as good as advertised. Compared to some of the other options I've tried, this was a very solid and tasty middle eastern solution in the Southfield area.

Mjadra- the blending of lentils and rice topped with crisp onions and a side of yogurt-yum. Who knew lentils could be so good? The split lentil soup is a must have. Since I have eaten at both this location and the Birmingham location, I give the OP location the best of the mjadra. Otherwise, both locations provide tasty items weather meat or vegetarian. The salad dressing requires me to eat the salad and if you have a small appetite, the chicken and mushrooms can be easily shared if your partner orders a side salad.

  • Christopher M.

One of the best middle eastern restaurants around (especially since La Shish closed). As with all middle eastern restaurants it seems, the food is a little pricey (for the entrees - the sandwiches are cheap and very good, but not a whole lot of food so you should order more than 1). But with the fresh hot pita and awesome selection of food, I'm willing to pay the premium. I'm a fan of the chicken shawarma with hummus. Only reason I can't give it the five stars is the service is not the greatest. They have more of a younger waitstaff that tends to be a little forgetful at times, but they are cordial.

I love this place! It's really close to the hospital in which I work, so it's perfect for those nights when I want some good food because they deliver! The best dish that I've tried from here is the Chicken with Hummus! It's absolutely delicious. The bread dipped in the lentil soup is also very good. They give you so much food that I can sometimes eat it for the two next days. I'm craving it as we speak! Go out and try it!

I've had carryout a few more times and each time they lose a star. I hate them...their shitty attitudes with carryouts, the screw-ups with every order, the quality of food that continues to spiral downward. Shawarma, meat stuffed grape leaves and kafta were all dry today. Their tomato kibbie is on the mushy side but I love tomato kibbie, so we ordered it today and how did they screw up this time? Came home with a pile of gross POTATO kibbie! Wow, that disgusting mess rivaled Polonia's potato pancake. Rubbery texture and awful gray interior. The taste was ok, once you got past the looks of it. My bulldog loves ethnic food and she devoured it. She has really good taste, so that tells ya something about the flavor. Right? I ordered a large 'pita and hummus'...did they include hot pita bread? No. We had to ASK for it and then they had the nerve to charge a friggin dollar PLUS TAX for 6 pieces! We just laid out over $70.!!! WTF??? I'm done with them. Take your attitude, Pita Cafe and shove it straight up your ass. I'll spend my $ elsewhere.

This review will probably get me eviscerated by Dea and Aaron. But here goes. The Pita Cafe is probably the cleanest Mediterranean restaurant I've been to in the area. It also has the biggest vegetarian menu I have seen here. They have a lot of options however there were no appetizers were offered on the menu. The servers were attentive and very nice. I was a bit surprised to see chicken fingers and wing dings on the menu. I kind of take that as an authenticity warning sign. We ordered a Fattoush salad, vegetarian stuffed cabbage and a falafel sandwich. The Fattoush was good, nothing to write home about but very solid. The Falafel sandwich was quite good. The Falafel itself was probably the best falafel I have had in the area. However, the sandwich itself was uninspired. Now for the kicker. The Stuffed Cabbage was pretty bad. The rice stuffing was, at the same time, bland and over spiced with cardamon. I could only handle a few bites. The other complaint I had was with the sweetened pita bread. I'm afraid that it just didn't go with the dish, and would have been better if it had been plain. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dish. If that is the case the restaurant my benefit from cutting the fat from the menu and keeping it lean and mean.

Great food, inconsistent waitstaff Pita Cafe consistently has excellent food. Even their grilled veggie dish is completely full of flavor (as opposed to the rather dull veggie dish at Pars Persian restaurant). The menu is composed of a great selection of both vegetarian dishes and meat dishes. The lemonade is awesome (which is to be expected since the lemons are squeezed right then) and....they have the POOFY bread!!!! All hail the fantastic and fresh poofy bread that graces each table. Additionally, the atmosphere is welcoming and clean. There is definitely no feeling of being in a 'cheap' restaurant (such as one may find in a Coney Island). The service, however, is rather mixed....Throughout the past few years the service has ranged from utterly appalling to prompt and courteous. If it were consistent- especially consistently good- Pita Cafe would easily be a five star restaurant.

So good! Went there for carry out I got the Shish tawook entree w rice and a salad. The chicken was amazing! Well marinated and cooked perfectly. The salad and pita bread was massive and would be a nice meal by itself Highly recommend!!!!

Went a few days ago with a friend. We should have walked out when we had to wait for over a minute for someone to clean off the table at which we sat. In fact, the waiter I asked to get it cleaned off said that we could sit at another table. ....Really? No shyt. I could do that, but isn't it your job to wipe down all of your tables for your customer (just in the off chance that every one is occupied?) Anywho, we then had to wait for the waitress to bring me a menu. My friend ordered lamb kabobs (medium) , and there was tabouleh on the side. I ordered baked kibbee. We waited for some time, even though the place was not crowded. Once served, we bit into our respective meals and I ended up with a forkful of bland, chewy, over-cooked kibbee while my friend's kabobs were done well, not medium well done. We both returned our meals and I replaced the kibbee with a lamb shwarma instead (how hard is it to mess up shwarma?), but my friend's over-cooked kabob was replaced by one that was so rare that it was practically bleeting. Throwing her hands in disgust and resignation, she called the waitress over once again, also pointing out that the waitress charged her for a standard size taboule instead of the small tabouleh that normally accompanies the kabobs. This is when the waitress called over the manager. The manager handled my friend's complaint fairly well, but he also asked her never to return, which I thought was hilarious ("I am losing money off of you, madame", he declared). Therefore, I will not complain about his demeanor, but the wait time, the cleanliness of the table, having to wait for a menu, and finally, the food itself. I won't be returning to Pita Cafe because this is the second time their cook has prepared a bad dish for me and my dining companion.

This was my first introduction to middle eastern food many years ago and remains the place I compare all others to. You are greeted at the door by a myriad of delicious smells and eye catching decor. Your mouth is in for a treat.

Very good food, but it seems like most of the people who work here are arrogant with bad attitudes.

This place has some of the best Middle Eastern Food in Michigan, thus in the world.... Um... I used to work a mile away, and went to lunch here so regularly that not only did everyone in the restaurant know me. Three years later, when I showed up, the manager treated me like his son... and offered me the hand of a waitress... or was it a waiter? Anyways, I have had almost everything on the menu, and I love this restaurant. Even the seafood is good. However, i am particular to their garlic spread, so everything with their garlic spread on it, is great. Eat here A Lot

Excellent crushed lentil soup, excellent kebab sandwich (super tender meat in pita), excellent complimentary pita-type bread, and excellent fruit/veg raw juices. Also impressed at how nice the waiters were and how nice the place has gotten. It expanded and it looks much nicer with cozy booths and beaded middle eastern chandeliers, and so forth.

I just moved up from Atlanta, and have found this place to be absolutely astounding for their food. It's all fresh and great to eat. I would recommend the Spring Mix Salad, or possibly the Spinach Salad. The raspberry vinaigrette is fantastic. The raw juice selection is fantastic and made fresh right there. It's my daily go-to spot for lunch.

Flavorful, fresh food and prompt service. I have been eating middle eastern cuisine for the past 2 years and I have tried a number of place in greater Detroit. Pita Cafe is certainly a favorite.

  • Jim G.

Why a place like this doesn't exist in LA both boggles my mind and breaks my heart. The food is delcious and plentiful, service is great, and the prices are rock bottom for what you get. If I wanted to become a championship fatty, this is where I'd park my butt on a daily basis. Honestly, this review is somewhat worthless because I can't really comment on any particular dishes or make recommendations. Since I had never been to Pita Cafe before, I went with the flow and had our Detroit native do the picking and choosing. Within minutes, plate after plate of delicious food began showing up at our table. I didn't waste any time with silly questions like, "what is this?" or "how do I eat this?" I think must have blacked out from yumminess for most of the meal. I have faint recollections of hummus, meat, rice, and pita bread. That's about it. Damn Pita Cafe is sweet...

Good, fresh Middle-Eastern food. Portions are huge, so . . . consider sharing. Fried cauliflower was fantastic.

The whipped garlic here is AMAZING! Really good middle eastern food to rival the powerhouses in Dearborn. Great prices and HUGE portions! A must try!

I hadn't eaten here for several years, but stopped in today for a quick lunch. The service was fast and efficient, the pita bread and my shish kafta sandwich were both piping hot and tasty. Good, garlicky hummus. I should visit more often.

I LOVE the Pita Cafe. The food is great, the prices are great also. The setting is relaxing. My hubby, daughter and I LOVE IT. The garlic paste is TO DIE FOR! Yes, your breath will smell for a while but it's worth it.

Great place to go for some awesome Middle Eastern food. Thumbs up to the service, the food, and the atmosphere. Also, the juices & smoothies WIN.

i was really pleasantly surprised by pita cafe. it looks pretty plain on the outside and is stuck in a dank plaza but the food and the atmosphere is wonderful. i love the atmosphere. it is quiet murmuring and very very well decorated. does not look or feel cheap or corny. the food is really good. even though some of the stuff can be expensive, you can still get a $4 sandwich that you may not finish. their crushed lentil soup is so good to eat and their whipped garlic is so spicy and delicious. love this place, will become a frequent.

Without debate, the best middle eastern restaurant in the area, in the Deli Unique's old haunts. The restaurant was recently remodeled and expanded, and it works really well. The food is all really good. I would recommend: lamb shawarma, chicken shawarma, kibbe, mjadra, lamb stew, portobello sandwich, grape leaves, tabouli ... bascially anything on the menu. Don't forget to get a cup of crushed lentil, a fresh juice drink, and a piece of baklava for dessert. The prices are crazy inexpensive, and the service is always really attentive and personable. After dinner you can go next door to get some treats at a Russian grocery store, or go down the plaza to stock up at a nice local bakery.

I am surprised that I have never reviewed Pita Cafe. Pita Cafe is a family favorite. The night before my sister's bridal shower, for example, 22 close family members happened in to Pita Cafe in a disorganized swarm but were served promptly and correctly. I normally order mujadara as either an entree or sandwich (with lots and lots of garlic sauce!) but I decided to change it up a little and go for Soyet (also known as borgul, bulgar, or cracked wheat with tomatoes, peppers, and spices). It was delicious and cooked to perfection. I keep coming back to Pita Cafe for its deliciously prepared vegetarian dishes (available as sandwiches and entrees) and its whole lentil soup (a rarity at the Middle Eastern restaurants in Metro Detroit). I agree with Dea (who was at my family's dinner) that they should have a vegetarian sampler of some sort (not just for a couple). At a restaurant in East Lansing called Sultans they have a wheat combo that is tabouli, borgul, and mujadara served with yogurt and soup or salad. If Pita Cafe had such a dish, my life would be even more complete. The waitstaff is always friendly and helpful, and the owner is absolutely adorable. Since its renovation, the decor has only improved (it never was bad). I prefer this location much more than the Birmingham one.

It's one of the best since they remodeled this place and serve fresh hot pita. Been around for years and quality is always there.

Another one of my neighborhood staples, Pita Cafe has become comfort food for me. Whether it be take out or dining in, you'll probably finish your meal pleased. If you get the greek salad, be prepared for a little salad with your feta as they load up the plate, but as if that is a bad thing. The crushed lentil soup is delicious, and I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but one of the highlights is definitely the pitas which they bring you straight out of their ovens. I suppose this is a good thing since they don't charge extra. I would definitely advise ordering a side of hummus for while you're waiting for your meal.

Great food! Hot, fresh baked pita bread, great garlic spread, and shish tawook. Not as good tabouli as LaShish, but almost. Great service, friendly faces, one of my friends used to work there...

I can not say enough good things about pita cafe, or rather this pita cafe!! SO SO SO GOOD!! I want them to open them in chicago, and everywhere that I ever live. When in college I'd come home and tell them please open one in ann arbor. Best food, and so affordable!! Things I love there: Chicken shawarma, lemonade, crushed lentil soup, majadra sandwich, etc.... the list goes on this place is amazing, and I miss it dearly. Check this place out, you will not regret it, I promise!!!

We love Pita Cafe! You can actually miss it if you're paying attention to traffic on a busy corner (Greenfield/696) but turn around if you do. Also the only way to enter the parking lot is if you're heading north on Greenfield but aside from that... it has great food, good service, is very clean and it's not expensive. We eat here several times a month and I always get the Shish Combo. They say its for two so plan to take some home with you! The meats are tender and well seasoned, the garlic spread is smooth and tasty, the rice w/almonds has just the right amount of crunch and the lemonade... well if you like tart & sweet stuff, there is nothing better than the lemonade. My wife likes the Chicken Schwarma and the Deboned Chicken. They both are excellent: well seasoned, full of flavor and not dry. The fresh baked pita bread is served hot out of the oven and the tabouli is good too. Try it... you'll like it and come back for more!

I actually had to write a paper on visiting an ethnic restaurant a few months back for a class and this as the place I chose. I had heard so many great things about it, I had to check it out for myself. First, let me just say I haven't visited many "ethnic cuisine" restaurants, but this place has some of the BEST food I have ever tasted. Everything was very fresh and hot. Our very nice and courteous waiter brought us bread to munch while we decided what we wanted. We ordered the sauteed mushrooms as an appetizer and it was delicious! The bread had a side of garlic butter that was so good I had to stop myself so I could save some room for the entree. I I was recommended to try the Chicken Shawarma with rice and I was glad I ordered it because I was more than satisfied. My meal came with a salad, but I didn't care for it as much since it wasn't enough dressing for me, plus I was saving my appetite for the main course. As for drinks, I suggest trying the smoothies, they have a fresh juice bar and they are made to order. I look forward to coming back to the Pita Cafe again.

This is hands down the best Middle Eastern restaurant in the area. My family is Iraqi and we eat Chaldean food all the time. When we order food for work, we can't resist the freshness and and flavor of Pita Cafe. We order from here several times a week! The service is great; the wait staff moves quickly and makes sure the lunch rush goes smoothly. When we order carry out, they take our order over the phone and always have it ready when we arrive. I usually order the vegetarian combo, which includes hummus, tabbouli, rice, and stuffed grape leaves (we call this dolma). The hummus has a nice consistency and full of flavor. The tabbouli is a perfect blend of salt and lemon, never overdone, too sour or salty. The stuffed grape leaves are different from the ones I'm used to, but they're still delicious. I order the crushed lentil if I'm in the mood for soup. They never disappoint here. From service to menu items, everything we've tried has never been less than 5 stars. I highly recommend stopping in.

Pita Cafe is the go to for a "going out to lunch" restaurant for myself and coworkers. They do well with groups and despite being reasonably busy during the lunch hour, we have rarely waited. The service is consistently good and attentive, the prices are reasonable and the food is good. There are also plenty of healthy options so there is less guilt about eating out. When eating in they bring house made, still hot pita bread the the table. This bread is one of my favorite things about Pita Cafe. It is warm, soft, with a slight sweetness. We usually get hummus to share. A small is enough for a couple people. I also like their garlic spread, which is whipped until it is a spread. Beware your breath after eating! If you order take out they give you the other pita, the thin hard type that I'm not a fan of. If you ask for the in house, however, they will add it to the order. I generally order a cup of the crushed lentil soup with lemon and a fattoush salad with white meat chicken. The soup is filling and flavorful. The salad has tomato, cumber and crushed pita chips. The dressing is a light vinaigrette so the salad does remain healthy. I do like their fresh smoothies and juices, all made when ordered. These are the only items that are bit more pricey.

Great deal. Get a schwarma sandwich for under 4 bucks. What a steal! Get the chicken. I think the chicken is way tastier than the lamb. The lamb doesn't have the great sauce that the chicken has. Hummus is a must! Get a large hummus to split with 3 other friends or take it home. It's a great deal. You ask for extra pitas as well. The pitas are hot puff up like marshmellows and taste like delicious doughy and fresh bread. They have a nice crust on them as well. They go awesome with the fresh hummus.

Not bad! We went here on a whim for dinner. It's got a mix of middle eastern food from various countries. We ordered the Arayis and a shish kabob sandwich. The Arayis was amazing! I'd absolutely recommend that! The sandwich...not so much. It was lacking in taste. I come from a middle eastern family and kabobs are much better than that. We also ordered their fresh vegetable juice. I had apple and carrot (sweet and good!) while my mom had the carrot, spinach, and parsley one, which she also enjoyed. Our service was great! Everyone was friendly, the manager checked in on us, and our server Ali was fantastic. We're from out-of-town and he entertained our several questions with a big smile. Check it out!

Not at all like they used to be. I had a carryout order today, not only did I have to wait a long while to place the phone order, but they got the order wrong and I ended up paying $10 more on my bill because of their mistake. My elderly mom was with me and I did not have the time to wait for an order redo...hence, the call ahead. So, everything I ordered...and didn't was crammed in 1 bag...hot, cold all of it. To make things even worse, the top on the soup was completely busted when I got home and the soup was all over the bag...yeah, so much for eating that. I asked for a salad with no tomatoes. Guess what? Yup...tomatoes. I'm glad I just don't like tomatoes and am not allergic as I am to other foods. I sit now typing this as I eat my very dry lamb shawarma sandwich. I really used to like this place. So disappointing.

If I was writing this from previous visits it would be easy 4 star's. But today the service let it down. The food was pretty good as usual. The Greek fattoush salad was kind of small but I ordered the large, the hoummus was good, house frys are always good so was the falafel. The sandwiches are pretty good a little small but priced around $3.99 to $4.50 so decent value for money. The problem was the service I asked for more bread twice, but never got it, and waited and waited for the bill. They were kind of busy so I will give them a break, we will be back I hope next time service improves.

I've been spoiled by living near Al Ameer for the past few years, and I realize now how much i'd been taking them for granted! The food and service at Pita Cafe were both okay, but didn't stand out. My favorite places are ones that bring you garlic and warm bread automatically (like Al Ammer or Royal Kabob in Hamtramck), but here we had to ask for it. They DO have the fresh warm bread, but something was off with it when we visited a few nights ago. It was oddly sweet and maybe a little undercooked. PROBABLY that was just an issue with one batch of dough, if we go back again I'll update the review. The rest of the food was good, though It's so easy (and cheap!) to just go to Mr. Kabob that I'll probably do that much more often then i'll go here again.

Was in Detroit over this past long-weekend and had to try out Pita Cafe again. And yes, it was definitely as great as I thought. The bread is so fresh, piping hot, just sesame seeds baked in on one side. It's like perfectly crispy on the outside and richly smooth and soft on the inside. Amazing... like heaven. Then we had the hummus, which was really good. And lastly, the falafel sandwiches, Mmmm... The falafel here had this special flavor. Really delicious. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I had this fruit smoothie - banana, strawberry, pineapple. It was good too, thought it took FOREVER to make. Ya'll out there in the area are SO lucky. Love Pita Cafe.

Not like they use to be my girlfriend and I went for lunch the staff not friendly, we was served a bowl of bread we asked for garlic spread the response was &1.49 additional. The salad was a very small portion. I prefer LaMarsa or Royal Kabob great customer service, food, and friendlier atmosphere

We did take out here a few times and the food was generally pretty good. The last time we went we ordered potato kibbeh. I don't know what was going on there but the thing smelled like it had been doused in ammonia. It was disgusting. We have not gone back.

I love this place, I would give 5 stars but the service has a lot to be desired. If you order a drink that need refills it seems like your cup is always empty. The food is delicious i love the deboned chicken, their soups are super fresh and yummy. Absolutely the best bread i have had anywhere with fresh garlic paste and hummus mmm so yummy. My husband usually gets the schwarma combo I like the chicken better then the lamb or he will grt the beftake it's very flavorful and has a good heat level.

I love me some Pita Cafe! As a Lebanese girl, I'm picky about my middle eastern food and you can't go wrong here. Staff are friendly and always give me a good laugh. I've had their shwarmas, shish combo, lentil soup, fresh juices, fattoosh, tabouli...everything is great here.

The Birmingham one is my usual spot, but I came here for work a couple times in the lat few weeks and I was really impressed! As I'm a huge health nerd, I love when I can go to a restaurant and actually order something that is both delicious, mostly made out of vegetables, and NOT a salad. The hommus and veggies is perfect for this! Just a huge serving of celery, cucumber, and carrot sticks and a very generous portion of their delicious hummus. After I handled ordering carryout for 10 people at my office, I just had to write a review. It was amazing. I called at 10:10am and they don't even open til 11. They answered, took my whole huge order, and told me they'd have everything ready by 11. I got there around 11:10, and everything was ready and waiting for me. I asked if I could check it, and the guy who wrapped it immediately came out, opened EVERYTHING back up, and went through item-by-item with me and then helped me carry it to my car. I was so impressed by this. When I got it back to the office, everybody was thrilled with their orders. I had recommended the crushed lentil and everyone who ordered it really enjoyed it. I highly recommend this place. It's a great staple and the kind of place you could go to a few times a week without getting sick of. They have great healthy food and delicious indulgences if that's the kinda mood you're in, too :)

The food exceeded my expectations. Very clean on the inside. The staff was friendly and professional. I gave a 4/5 stars since my mango smoothie did not have any mango taste in it whatsoever. It tasted like a strawberry smoothie. I will definitely go back if I am in the area.

I love this middle eastern restaurant! It's always jam packed for lunch which is great for business! I ordered a small fattoush salad with the chicken tawook sandwich no garlic! only complaint is that the sandwich was a little to small.. Not filled enough with the goodies we expect as foodies!! Service was great and the food was delicious just would want to be full for what I paid! Great place to eat staff is friendly and serves you with a smile! Enjoy!

This is the best food I've ever had. It's healthy, flavorful, and the garlic sauce is delicious. The bread is very yummy too. One thing extra special about dining here is the kind of service. The employees here are extremely genuine and nice (and handsome, too) oh and they have fresh carrot and beat juice if you like that sort of healthy beverage

By a wonderful accident of timing, I had the chance to eat at two different Middle Eastern places in the area today. Pita Cafe was BY FAR the best! The hot bread, the creamy hummus, and the delicious lamb cannot be beat. This will now be the only ME place for me.

Food is okay, staff need to grow balls, witnessed table of 13 people with 5 kids under 5 years old run around the restaurant like they were at chucks cheese staff just smiled let it happen even with complaints and walk outs then one of the children stole food from plates and thrashed around the booths poor run establishment if they can't tell guests to be responsible in a setting that is more for adults

I've always loved Mediterranean food, but Pita Cafe has, hands down, the best garlic sauce and pita bread I have ever had. It is truly amazing! The bread is freshly baked at the restaurant and it is sweet, soft and thick. Nothing like the grocery store pita most places have. I usually get the Chicken Tawook (or chicken kebab) with rice, all very good. I also get the crushed lentil soup which is some of the best I've had as well. Love love love pita cafe!

  • Kenjamin S.

This place is home to the best hummus I've ever enjoyed in my life. When I lived in grand rapids I would take 96 just so I could swing by and get some hummus. Their chicken shwarma is also top notch. Great, friendly service on top of delicious food equals great place to grub.

  • P G.

Authentic!!!!! Can't beat the price or service. Everyone that helps you out knows the menu like the back of their hand! :-) their shakes are soooo delicious and they are freshly made. The service is terrific aside from the hostess sometimes playing on her Facebook. Hahaha. If your looking for authentic food, look no more!

  • Leang E.

This place was so unexpecting. I think I am in love with their garlic dipping sauce. I mean I probably shouldn't talk to anyone afterwards, but who cares?! The bread is absolutely addictive. Everything I had was outstanding - the hummus, lentil soup, and my shish combo. I was stuffed and the portions were generous. The staff was really on top of things, and the prices were reasonable. If I were to become a regular customer some place this would be it. It would be dangerous for me to live in the area as I would probably eat out here all the time - so just maybe whenever I come and visit my sister.

I called to place a carry-out order. They placed me on hold for more than 5 minutes. Then, picked up the phone and hung up. I called back and told them that I wanted to place an order but they hung up. They did the same thing again!!! So unprofessional!! I called La Marsa in Farmington Hills. Completely different experience. They were very friendly and professional and the food was so much better! I'm never going back to Pita Cafe!! They can keep their overpriced food. You're not the only game in town!!

Snapshot: Great option for Middle Eastern cuisine in the Southfield area, conveniently located right off of I-696. The food here is all good. I've had the shawarma, hummus and lentil soup. All were flavorful. I've never had a bad meal here. Why only 3 stars? Because as somewhat of a middle-eastern food snob, I must say this still isn't as good as either Mr. Kabob in Berkley, or Anita's Kitchen in Ferndale. Pita Cafe is still a great spot for a quick lunch right off of the freeway, but nothing I've had here knocked my socks off.

I grew up in Oak Park and have long since moved away but THIS place is by far one of my most favorite restaurants of all time. And it has expanded over the years so business must be good! My mother and I just recently returned to the area for a wedding, and we made it a point to go to the Pita Cafe before our trip was over. I had my usual... Crushed Lentil soup and a Chicken Shawarma sandwich with a papaya smoothie. OMG it's amazing. They put this garlic sauce on the Shawarma sandwiches that you will not find anywhere else. If it could ship this store to Cincinnati, I would. So if you're in the area, do yourself a favor. GO! Excellent food at extraordinarily good prices.

This place is one of the most authentic Lebanese restaurants outside of Dearborn. Not saying that all of the Lebanese restaurants in Dearborn are authentic... some are a mix of Iraq and Lebanese combined. Pita cafe's hummus, baba, tabbouleh, kabobs, falafel and fresh baked pita bread are right on point. Love their salad dressing even though its not the traditional lemon juice, olive oil, salt and dash of sumac... its still close enough to fool your palette. It would be awesome if they baked whole wheat pita as an alternative. Hint! Hint! Been to both of their locations and the one in Birmingham is still my favorite over the one in Oak Park. I'm gIving Pita Cafe five stars for staying true to their traditional roots. Granted it's not like La Shish in downtown Beirut but god darn it.... its close enough.

Get the garlic dip- bring gum! Sandwiches are the best. A sure stop every trip to Detroit - Oak Park is the one to go to. Birmingham location tries to be the same - but not close. The chicken and tabuli is the best pita in town - under $5 too This is way it is supposed to be!!!!! If you don't like this place I don't know why is wrong with you

I have been to this place several times over they years, but went recently and realized I had never written a review. I have always loved the decor here - considering the rather unattractive street/area where it's located it's nice to be transported somewhere else when you get inside. The classic beaded lamps, tiles and comfortable decor are great. We got the starter to begin with hummus, tabbouli, babaganoush and toum - yummy! I got the mixed chicken and lamb shawarma. Great food and good service.

Awesome!!! We just moved to Southfield from Sterling Heights and stumbled upon this gem. The food is incredible, we've had several dishes now, and nothing less than awesome yet! The rice is INCREDIBLE and the bread comes warm and DELICIOUS, we always get extras to take home with us. The service is always fast and respectful, but the thing that really separates Pita Cafe is the home made fruit/veggie smoothies. THEY ARE INCREDIBLE! I go there just for a smoothie after work now! :) Prices are very reasonable given the amount will be enough for lunch tomorrow too! Stop by, you won't be disappointed!

Pita Cafe is a delicious restaurant serviing Middle Eastern cuisine at the intersection of Greenfield and the 696 service drive. The falafel is cooked well and is very flavorful. I really enjoyed the Chicken Shawarma sandwich because it has a very good garlic spread. The crushed lentil soup is very good and has a lot of flavor. Try the home style fries which are slices of potatoes that are fried. The menu is quite large. The sandwiches are under $4. Most of the large dinners are around $10. The decor is very nice and is Middle Eastern themed. If you're looking for good Middle Eastern food try this out.

  • Bonnie G.

Not my favorite Middle Eastern food in the area. With such high yelp reviews I decided to give it another try. I have been a few times dining in for lunch and thought it was okay. I recently got carry out and it did not change my mind. I still prefer grape leaves down the street. I ordered a dinner with hummus and lentil soup. I really enjoyed the crushed lentil soup, probably my favorite part of the meal. The hummus did not taste fresh, had the taste of going bad soon and also bland. The dinner portion was average, the meat was small pieces and almost overcooked. I got the shish combo with beef, chicken, and lamb kafta. I had leftovers for a few meals. Also, they did not include the homemade bread with carry outs (or so they told me). I thought they would since I ordered a dinner meal and hummus. They only included two flat pita breads they use for sandwiches. The garlic sauce is great! They did include a decent sized amount with the dinner.

This place has great customer service and they use a lot of higher quality ingredients. They are always busy and nestled in a plaza near 696 and Greenfield Road. Location is very accessible, but parking lot is quite cramped. I like their creamy hummus, higher quality pita breads, shawarma sandwiches, and last but not least they make some good rice pilaf on the side. Their art of Mediterranean cuisine here is best enjoyed sitting down and taking your time with the food. It is not a fancy place, but it creates a kind of atmosphere that feels cozy. There is plenty of seating inside. I have catered food from here as well and they handle large orders very well. People have always been pleased with their food in my experience. Pricing is a little above the divey Mideast eateries, but less than some of the uppity places. I recommend this place if you are in the area.

  • Rebecca B.

I go here so often, I must have forgotten to write a review! Oops. So this place is where I set my bar for other restaurants. I go here for lunch about once a week because it is consistent, friendly, and quite tasty. The sandwiches are about $4, soup is maybe $3. I wish they would have a few combos but they don't. I usually get the m'jadra sandwich and lentil soup, the hummus is great. They do have crispy pita, you just have to ask. I also like the garlic. As others have mentioned, the parking stinks.

  • Bella M.

Great Middle Eastern food and very good service. The pita bread is very fresh, hot out of the oven. A good reliable menu, large servings. They have a juice bar with any combination you crave. My only complaint would be the hummus, a little to thin. Overall, a good value.

I am never disappointed when I visit the Pita Café. It's great for both eating in and take away and they offer some pretty amazing deals on party trays/catering if you are in need of that service.
